ArchivalResource

Connecticut militia and Military District 2 orderly and letter books, 1803-1815.

Orders to the 3rd brigade for inspections, parades, enrollments, appointments and instructions on filling out and filing returns. Once war was declared with Great Britain in 1812, the orders took on a more urgent tone, assigning various regiments to guard duty in New London or Groton, Connecticut. The United States Army, in the person of Adjutant General P.P. Schuyler, took command of Military District 2 based first in New London and later in Providence, Rhode Island. The orderly and letter books dating 1814-1815 document efforts to defend New London harbor from the British Navy.

4 volumes.
